  1. Create new account on server via official vaultwarden docker image and web vault
  2. Stop docker container
  3. Copy config directory to Macbook
  4. Start official vaultwarden docker image on Macbook
  5. Try to login on Macbook
  6. Verify values sent to backend are the same on server and Macbook using Browser Developer tools (Network tab, check the username and password in the /identity/connect/token call)
  7. Login does not work with error 400

Note: It does work, when I try the exact same steps on the server (using a separate docker container).

Additional Context

During a recovery exercise, I tried to copy the config directory containing the DB files to my Macbook. I start a vaultwarden instance and try to login, but the login fails due to unknown reasons.

I double checked the values sent from the Login page to the backend are the same on the server and Macbook, which makes me think the backend is the problem.

On the macbook I run the vaultwarden container in Colima, which uses a Linux VM for the docker daemon.

It seems like the DB file or encryption is platform dependent, but I have no idea what is the root cause of this problem.

I start a vaultwarden instance and try to login, but the login fails due to unknown reasons. I double checked the values sent from the Login page to the backend are the same on the server and Macbook, which makes me think the backend is the problem. On the macbook I run the vaultwarden container in Colima, which uses a Linux VM for the docker daemon. It seems like the DB file or encryption is platform dependent, but I have no idea what is the root cause of this problem.
