We're using Trello and, funnily, we rely on this feature (being able to react with emojis to any comment) quite heavily in our team: to show that we've read the comment, that we agree / disagree with the proposal in it, to congratulate / show appreciation, to show we've completed the task set out in it, etc. We'd like to switch to an open-source platform, and this feature would be something we'd miss a lot.

And there's no shame in copying useful features from others, like Linear or makeplane/plane.

Reactions are quite versatile: in one fell swoop we'd get polls, ranking, (one-emoji-long) threads, all that with a dense and familliar UI.

Happy to contribute some time to implement this with guidance from the core team and inputs from the community.

A few questions on the design:

Should reactions be restricted to emojis or include custom icons (similar to Slack)?
Could a single user add more than one reaction (again, similar to Slack)?
What happens when there are more reactions than available space on the UI?
