I am stepping down as a maintainer of this project, this issue is my last contribution which I believe will help the project thrive.

I feel honored and privileged to have served you, the community. Along with other members of the core team who picked up this project from tteck in his last days, it was a lot of work but very rewarding. I spend a lot of amount time messaging with tteck while he was in hospice and have endeavoured to honor his wishes, which I think I did.

I have made some good friends and hope this project succeeds, that it is secure & safe to use, transparent and community led. I wish you a productive 2025 and may your Homelabs grow and prosper ❤

yes

What type of issue is this?

Organization, community & finance issue.

A clear and concise description of the issue.

Two weeks ago the financial transparency section of the README was removed 63b5024. This was a direct commit to the repository, not a pull request.

I wrote the financial transparency section of the README (pull request #209) , and it was approved by @MickLesk, the project owner, and and one other maintainer (who recently stepped down). It was also discussed during a maintainer meeting on Discord.

It read:

  • Ko-Fi for Community Edition: Donate to this project - All funds will go towards script maintenance infrastructure and server costs. Our most immediate need is funding testing infrastructure. Your contributions help keep the project running. To honor tteck's legacy this project will also raise money for charity (cancer research, hospice care). Of the money donated to this project, 30% will be donated to charity. Income, expenditure and charitable donations will be disclosed annually in a transparent manner.

The above paragraph was removed from the README and replaced in this commit 5d69a62b47

As both a contributor and donator to the project I request that this financial transparent section is re-added. Approx. $1000 was donated while this transparency notice was in place, at the very least it should be honoured for the time it was in place. To date, as far as I am aware there have been 250 tips ("donations") worth $5 each.

The money is received personally by @MickLesk. I am now aware how the money was/is used, what it has been spent on or and what, if any, charitable donations have been made.

I am NOT suggesting that the money has not been used for its intended purpose, or that donations have not been made, or that donations to charities have not already been planned.

I do think this project would be better and healthier having transparency, than it would be without.

I also propose (as originally discussed by the maintenance team) that an annual finance document should be committed to the repo e.g. /finances/2024.md. I suggest the following format and that it is committed to the repo in January to cover the preceding year:

Donation Allocation for Community Scripts (2024)

Thank you for your donation to Community Scripts for Proxmox VE! Your support helps us maintain and improve the project, and it also enables us to give back to the community. This document outlines how we allocate the donations we receive.

Donation Breakdown

Allocation Percentage
Project Development ??%
Infrastructure & Maintenance ??%
Charitable Contributions ??%

Project Development (00%)

00% of all donations were given to developers to support this project. This includes payment to the follow developers:

  • ZZZ AAA ($xx.xx)
  • XXX BBB ($xx.xx)

Infrastructure & Maintenance (00%)

A portion of donations covers the costs of:

  • X ($xx.xx)
  • Y ($xx.xx)

Charitable Contributions (30%)

We are committed to making a positive impact beyond our project. That's why 30% of all donations are allocated to charitable organizations. Our focus areas include:

  • XYZ ($xxx.xx): Explanation of the charity, name and what they do.

We believe that by sharing our resources, we can help build a better and more inclusive future for everyone.

How to Donate

Your generosity makes a difference! You can donate via:

Thank You!

Let us honor tteck by doing this right.

I wish @MickLesk and the remaining core team members the very best of luck ☺️

@newzealandpaul commented on GitHub (Jan 30, 2025):

I am closing this ticket as it appears from off-Github messages I received that this issue was misinterpreted as implying something untoward had occurred. This was not my intent in submitting this issue.

I stand by my suggestion for ongoing transparency, but I will leave this up to the maintainer team. I wish you all well and thank the team for all their hard work.
