For Feature Requests

Desired Feature: In addition to #782 (https://github.com/BookStackApp/BookStack/issues/782) it would be very valuable to be able to "pin" the Book Navigation panel on the left-hand side of the screen. This ensures that the full scope of your current location is clear, as well as letting you jump around to different topics easily.

Right now the Book Navigation panel is only visible on certain screens and isn't the top-most panel item.

Hi @bensulli, Thanks for opening this request.

Can you expand on how you see this working? In regards to exactly what you'd expect the 'pinning' would do.

  • Would it overlap the current sidebar content or just move it up?
  • Would it persist through all chapter & page navigation?

Hi,

Yes, I think it would take either the top spot on the sidebar or, ideally, be configurable what appears in the sidebar altogether. And it would persist regardless of your position in the hierarchy.

This is what we're using now with a Wordpress plugin, because it enables a persistent hierarchy view, but I miss using BookStack if I'm honest!

I would like to see this, or else a similar option for a sort of "landing page" where you could give new users an overview of how to use BookStack, how the particular instance is organized, etc.

I'm sure this could be done with custom CSS, but it's be better to be part of the main codebase and easily configurable via the existing GUI.

I'm going to close this off in favour of (effectively merging this into) issue #1173, which has a very similar fundamental request but with a more general scope to apply to all sidebar elements.
Thanks @bensulli for the original request.
