Describe the feature you'd like

Ability to drag & drop an entire chapter or single page (or multiple page with Shift or CMD selection) into a different Book (!) directly from sorting mode.

Perhaps a warning dialog could be present „Do you want to move this page/chapter to ?“ with Checkbox „Don’t ask again“ or option to suppress by keeping e.g. Shift-Key pressed should be presented. And Undo-Feature would make a lot of sense too in this context, if for instance, it was dropped onto the wrong Book by accident.

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing BookStack users

Page and Chapters can be moved to another Book by entering/opening the Page or Chapter and using the Move-Button. A faster, more convenient and alternative approach when cleaning up however might be to add a „Drag & Drop to other Books“ Feature in Book Sorting mode.

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

Yes ... via Move-Button, one by one, as described above.

Have you searched for an existing open/closed issue?

  • I have searched for existing issues and none cover my fundamental request

How long have you been using BookStack?

Over 5 years

Additional context

Hi @Wookbert,

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?
Yes ... via Move-Button, one by one, as described above.

If you click on a book, it will then be added to the sort view also where you'd then be able to drag/move between as desired.
Otherwise I wouldn't be keen on allowing direct addition via dropping into the sidebar as pictured as that adds a load extra UX & functional considerations we'd have to handle, for something the user can achieve already just via an extra click.

Aaah! I wasn’t aware of that! My bad, I didn’t read the fine print/help text in the Books panel on the right. Stupid me. Although I think my requested option would be nice to have, I guess you can close the issue/request.
