Describe the benefits this would bring to existing BookStack users

Link other wiki/site (e.g. Wikipedia, Github) in BookStack and you'll soon find it cumbersome. Typing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States becomes a hassle. This is where interwiki come in handy. Instead of writing https://github.com/BookStackApp/BookStack/commit/481580be17, you only need {{github|481580be17}}.

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

I don't think so.

I have searched for existing issues and none cover my fundamental request

How long have you been using BookStack?

Not using yet, just scoping
