Describe the Bug

Trying to access my instance of BookStack from a MacBook results in an error message saying 'These credentials do not match our records'.

The login credentials are good.

Steps to Reproduce

Attempted login using known credentials resulting in the error

Expected Behaviour

To be able to log in to the application normally.

Screenshots or Additional Context

This happens in both Safari and Firefox. MacBook is running Monterey (12.7.1). I can access BookStack from my Windows machine (using the exact same login parameters, and regardless of browser) with no issues.

Browser Details

Safari 17.6 on iOS Monterey; Firefox 133.03 on iOS Monterey

Exact BookStack Version

24.12

That's odd, maybe credential auto-fill or something interfering with login?

  • Are you able to login to our demo instance okay?
  • Does the same occur in a private/incognito browser?
  • If you type the password externally in a plaintext app/input, then paste that in, does that work?
    • This is to check if it's the act of typing in that specific input, but also to check the password is what you believe it should be before using it in BookStack, to avoid any errors cause by keyboard differences between operating systems/devices.

@ssddanbrown :

Possibly!

I cleared browser caches, deleted the user/password combo from the Mac keychain, but still wouldn't log in - I tried manually typing the password as well as copy/paste, but no different.

In the end I created a new user/password and that allows me to log in ok, so it's solved the problem, although I am none the wiser as to why my other credentials don't allow me to log in.

Thanks for your input - I will close this off now.
