Describe the feature you'd like

Currently, the gallery is only accessible via a page that is currently being edited. As an example: You have five different user or price lists, one of which is the current one and the others are to be deleted, which is currently difficult to access. The same with older images or other media you would like to clean up.

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing BookStack users

Implementing a feature that makes the media library directly accessible from anywhere would significantly enhance user convenience and efficiency. Users would be able to quickly and easily access media resources without navigating through multiple pages or dealing with ongoing updates that may limit accessibility. This seamless access would streamline workflows, reduce frustration, and improve overall user experience.

Explain the measurable benefits this feature would achieve for existing BookStack users:

  • Increased Efficiency: Users would save time by accessing the media library directly, leading to faster retrieval of necessary resources. This would be particularly beneficial in scenarios where time-sensitive information is required.
  • Improved Productivity: With easier access to media, users can focus more on their core tasks rather than navigating through the platform. This would likely result in higher productivity levels.
  • Reduced Errors and Confusion: By having a single, easily accessible media library, the likelihood of accessing outdated or incorrect resources is minimized. This is akin to having only one current user or price list available and removing outdated versions, thus reducing confusion and potential errors.
  • Enhanced User Satisfaction: Providing a more intuitive and user-friendly experience can lead to increased satisfaction and potentially higher user retention rates.

These benefits should detail outcomes in terms of what this request solves/achieves, and should not be specific to implementation:

The primary goal of this feature is to solve accessibility issues and improve the overall usability of the media library within BookStack. It addresses the problem of limited access due to ongoing updates and the complex navigation currently required. By centralizing access, it ensures that all users can efficiently reach the resources they need without unnecessary steps or delays. This enhancement aligns with the overarching objective of making BookStack more intuitive and efficient for its users, facilitating smoother and more effective knowledge management.

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

No. Currently, the goal of making the media library directly accessible from anywhere cannot be fully achieved through existing methods within BookStack. The current system requires users to navigate through specific pages, which can be cumbersome and time-consuming, especially when those pages are under construction or being updated.

Yes. While it is technically possible to access the media library, it involves a more complex and less efficient process. Users must go through multiple steps, which may include navigating different sections or dealing with temporary accessibility issues during updates.

If yes, please describe how the requested approach fits in with the existing method:

The requested approach of making the media library directly accessible from anywhere would streamline the existing method by removing unnecessary navigation steps. It would integrate seamlessly with the current system by providing a more straightforward and user-friendly way to access media resources. This enhancement would not replace the current methods but rather complement them, ensuring that all users have quick and reliable access to the media library without the need to navigate through potentially outdated or inaccessible pages. This approach would significantly improve usability and efficiency, aligning with the overall goal of enhancing the user experience within BookStack.

Thanks for the kind comment, and for the request.

Will the media library eventually be accessible from more than just the pages?

It's not something planned or desired since there's little demand and little value in supporting the image manager to be used elsewhere.

I'm going to close off this request though, partially due to it being something planned anytime soon, but mostly because I'm fairly confident much of the request text is LLM generated, and I don't want others to also use their time to attempt to understand/read the very verbose yet very generic machine generated text.
