Describe the feature you'd like

In minute 2:40 it is shown that you can now set a default template for a book.

Offer the option of defining a default template for all new pages via the configuration file, for example, if no separate template has been defined for the book.

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing BookStack users

A more uniform structure across all pages, even if new people help to fill Bookstack.
You can also refer to instructions etc. using this template, as it is displayed directly to the user. Before he starts creating a page.

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

Unknown, so far it probably only works at book level.

Have you searched for an existing open/closed issue?

  • I have searched for existing issues and none cover my fundamental request

How long have you been using BookStack?

1 to 5 years

Additional context

No response

I'm currently working on a PR to implement this feature also for chapters, which are the ohne two places where you can create pages.

It's already planned fpr the next feature release.

Thanks for the request @LHBL2003,
Personally I'm not too keen, since it's an extra option to support, and you'd inevitably then get requests to have options to ignore the global defaults (at a book or chapter level), and I try to avoid options where possible.
I'll leave this open though to allow any potential support to be voiced.

I think the topic of templates is very good, but only those who know about it use it. Or who use it often and remember it. It's simply too hidden.

Perhaps another option would be to ask which template you want to use before you edit the page for the first time (alternatively none). Maybe you can put a switch in the settings so that something like this is displayed.

The fact that you can set a template for the books and chapters does not help me in my case, as anyone can create books and chapters and will not activate these options.

Another idea would be to leave the right menu open with the default view of the templates.
