Describe the feature you'd like

Would it be possible for us to have an option to add internal meta descriptions for each page? Also a sitemap?

I'd pay for a premium version

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing BookStack users

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

Have you searched for an existing open/closed issue?

  • I have searched for existing issues and none cover my fundamental request

How long have you been using BookStack?

Not using yet, just scoping

Additional context

Hi @ArkansasDev,

Would it be possible for us to have an option to add internal meta descriptions

As mentioned in this previous issue, This isn't something I'd be keen to add. I'm really not fond of adding additional features and meta fields to BookStack just to appease external systems, especially for things like meta descriptions which are of quite questionable value anyway.

Issue #1126 considers a feature for setting a description for in-platform reasons, which we could then use for meta descriptions, but I'm not too keen to add that either as I'm not convinced of the value as per my comment there.

Also a sitemap?

This has been touched upon in #1422, and I have also created a simplistic sitemap generator as an API example script.
If you'd really want site-maps built in, then feel free to open a new specific issue for that but please properly fill in each part of the request form, since the questions are there for a purpose to assess validate the value vs cost, and platform-fit.
It may be worth not raising though unless you actually start using BookStack, to help ensure we only have requests from those using the platform.

I'd pay for a premium version

That's not really something I'm interested in doing I'm afraid.
It's important to me that money does not dictate scope/features/direction, and that money is not a barrier to anyone wanting to use any features of the platform.

Ahh damn!

We are few weeks into building public documentation for 3D printer company

Just now when started dealing with page indexing realized there's no sitemap. Sad that it's put off 😐

Was bad evaluation on our side, didn't even occur it might not have it and it's meant for in-house docs only

We used pro-sitemaps.com

Its a simple and quick fix to filter out all the stuff you don't want to spam search engines with and its clean and simple.

see ours here > https://docs.arkansas.dev/pro-sitemaps-4399590.php

also @ssddanbrown has a script he made https://github.com/BookStackApp/api-scripts/blob/main/php-generate-sitemap/readme.md

Hope this helps.
