Describe the feature you'd like

I have switched from confluence to BookStack. While most of the features I use are present, there are some things which are worse to use.

Especially on editing I am a big fan of using shortcuts to avoid switching from keyboard to mouse and vice versa.

It would be great if some shortcuts would be present so I want to suggest to add support for them.

The following shortcuts are in massive use on confluence by me and I am missing them in this greate BookStack:

  • 'e' on page view to start editing
  • ALT+down in a table to add a row below
  • ALT+up in a table to add a row above
  • {code} to insert a code block
  • {tipp} to add a green backgrounded panel

Additionally some colored "emoticons" would be great to provide e.g. some check lists etc. e.g.

  • (/) for a green check mark
  • (x) for a red X-cross
  • (*g) for a green star
  • (?) for a blue question mark
  • (!) for yellow exclamation mark

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing BookStack users

Using the shortcuts editing is much easier an faster than permanently switching from keyboard to mouse (esp. in tables).
A switch from confluence is made more smooth

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

I am currently not aware of some usable possibilities

Have you searched for an existing open/closed issue?

  • I have searched for existing issues and none cover my fundemental request

How long have you been using BookStack?

6 months to 1 year

Additional context

No response

I have a very similar situation, and I moved from my personal dokuwiki over to bookstack. Over all I actually like it quite a bit better, but one of the biggest ones that gets me every time is that I still automatically hit 'e' every time I'm trying to edit a page. While it's not a huge shift to using the mouse, it's enough to throw me off each time. I use 'e' for both Confluence (enterprise stuff), and my personal dokuwiki. It would be really nice if 'e' at the very least was added, though I like some of the others mentioned above.

@crueber If you go to "My Account > UI Shortcut Preferences" you can enable UI shortcuts to be able to press "e" to edit when viewing a page (or book, chapter etc...).
