Describe the feature you'd like

  • Ability to ask a general question and have responses to the question perhaps linking to a specific bookstack resource.
  • Ability to rate the responses and comment on. Ostensibly a slimed down version of Stack Overflow for internal business use.
  • Ability to integrate this with Microsoft Teams. Initial question posted to Teams group chat. Option to open a new question in bookstack using message content, and push the response to this message as an answer to that question.

Describe the benefits this feature would bring to BookStack users

Ability to capture very small pieces of information that are often posed in a question format that do not warrant a full writeup.

Additional context

No response

Thanks for the request @peep24. This is something that was actually suggested when I originally introduced BookStack to CT 6 years ago!

While I can see how this could be useful, I'm going to have to close this off as out of scope.
A Q&A system fundamentally targets a different use-case with different user flows and processes to that of BookStack. Not only would this weaken the definition of what BookStack is, it will greatly widen the surface area of support, requests and maintenance within a project where resources are already quite limited. To keep the project's existence viable we have to set the bounds of the project scope at some level, which this exceeds.

You could kind of emulate some of this within BookStack at some level already. Maybe have a book or chapter for Q&A's, Then a page get's opened for a question, with answers posted as comments. You could even use the recently added webhooks (In combination with something like "Power Automate") to post new questions to teams. Responses from teams will be tricky to handle, although likely technically possible via our REST API.

Thanks @ssddanbrown. Your completely right its out of scope for Bookstack. I just feel like there is a need for a question answer forum that can be set up for a given organisation, and capture this kind of collaborative problem solving. As per usual my ideas are too nebulous and lack clarity of direction. I could build this out, but to be honest I'm working on other things right now that excite me more.
