First of all, congratulation for your project, it is really impressive!

Feature description
One thing I miss, is the possibility of a navigation menu on the left side., e.g.:

This could be optional and replace the "Recent activity/recently viewed/New books".
With this, it would also be nice if the person could add on the shelf a document without having to create a book.

Benefits
I see two advantages on that:
1- This would be easier for the user to expand the desired shelf, book and go directly to the desired content he/she wants.
2- With both features (navigation + loose page), it would be simpler for using it as a wiki page.

Hi.
I actually agree on this as well. I know everyone has it's own preferences but I for me this is one of the most efficient ways on navigating a hierarchy. Do you thing this one can see the light one day?

There is already a Book Navigation menu when you visit book pages.
Maybe this feature could be extended to shelves and/or home page ?
