The built-in tables unfortunately leave a lot to be desired. There have been requests to fully „Integrate Google Docs“ (#916; closed), and there is also an open issue „WYSIWYG Table Generator & Editor for Markdown Mode“ (#315).

My idea would be to „simply“ display Google Sheets inline. This really means viewer only, no inline-editing. A pencil button could open the sheet on Google’s website for editing.

The sheet in the viewing area should be scrollable (horizontal/vertical) and perhaps zoomable.

As someone in issue #315 rightfully said: Not everybody likes Google, so support for other cloud-based Office Suites (e.g. OnlyOffice) would be nice too.

I wonder why it has no more comments since over 2 years. This is a very important feature for organisations.

I’m really trying to avoid the built-in tables (I think it’s TinyMCE) as much as possible, because they are so limited and time-consuming to work with. So instead I’m adding text link to Google sheets. Still would love to see fully scrollable and zoomable Google Sheets inline preview.

Googling the issue led me to this ticket. I'm going to put aside some time over the weekend to see what needs to be done to make this integration happen. TinyMCE seems like the place to start.
