Describe the feature you'd like

Markdown is nice, but AsciiDoc is also a really well-structured and useful format.

It'd be nice to have this format as an alternative.

Describe the benefits this feature would bring to BookStack users

  • AsciiDoc support
  • Stricter, but more complete language

@KantarBruceAdams commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2022):

There are several good asciidoc capable editors that might be used as the basis for this - see for example https://asciidoclive.com/edit/scratch/1

asciidoc maps to docbook and it is used to write entire books. For example see, O'Reily's atlas toolchain - https://docs.atlas.oreilly.com/index.html#what-is-atlas-DNIRua

There is currently a lot of work going into standardisation which is also worth a mention. See https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipse/asciidoc-lang/asciidoc-lang

@fofwisdom commented on GitHub (Jun 14, 2025):

Most people who say they write documents in Markdown are faking it - anyone who has written a “document” can't resist AsciiDoc.

AsciiDoc is fully EPUB/PDF/HTML ready for publication in a single authoring step.
