The bug

I have some photos that are in the cloud that I wanted to download to the client. I click the Download and progress bars in notifications and the new Downloads button but nothing changes in the interface. The file system shows that the files have been downloaded to DCIM/Immich but Immich does not recognize it. Subsequent attempts at downloading result in a (1) being appended to a new download in the file system, but Immich still does not show a checkmark cloud and the file is not accessible through Immich when offline. This only just started happening on 2.0.0, it worked as expected prior to that.

This is currently how downloading works, there is no mechanism yet to mark a file as locally available to Immich after downloading it.

@Logan-Quest commented on GitHub (Oct 6, 2025):

Interesting. I'm curious then why it used to change the cloud icon on the thumbnail to one with a checkmark and the downloaded image was viewable in the app even when offline. Attempting to re-download a file that was already download, just skipped it. This was expected behavior.

The ones in the most recent batch are not viewable from the app, even though they exist locally. Attempting to re-download a file results in duplicates every time. Did something change so that the current behavior is different from the old behavior?
