I have searched the existing issues, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate report.

The bug

Android natively does not support AVIF pictures and it seems that the application does not ship any local transcoding solution. Because of that, when "display original" option is turned on, the images stop being accessible, apart from the thumbnails.

The OS that Immich Server is running on

NixOs 25.05 with podman

Version of Immich Server

v1.142.0

Version of Immich Mobile App

1.142.0

@Eskuero commented on GitHub (Dec 19, 2025):

I just noticed the same. It works fine on browser obviously. No issues downloading it but it would be nice to be able to see it specially because I was compressing them beforehand to save a bit on storage. The AV1 videos seem to be fine tho.

It also would be nice to support jpegxl
