The bug

We have a setup including roughly 75k fotos, most of them in my admin account, the rest in my spouses account. Both accounts turned on partner sharing and we both activated the beta timeline on our iPhones.

Everything backs up fine (after opening and closing the app a couple of times), but I cannot see the uploaded pictures of my spouses account in my beta timeline. On the server everything is displayed correctly, once I turn off the beta timeline i see here photos. its the same vice versa - she sees the majority of the photos in my account, but everthing I took since August 14 (dont know why this date) doesnt show up in her beta timeline. Once I deactivate the beta timeline I see those "missing" photos. Same on the web.

fwiw:
1.139.2 am 23. Aug. 2025 installiert
1.138.0 am 19. Aug. 2025 installiert
1.137.3 am 1. Aug. 2025 installiert

so nothing matches the August 14th date... cant make anything off of it...

any hints on what Info I could also provide on top to circle in the problem?!

Cheers for your help!

Reproduction steps

  1. activate beta timeline (not all photos are shown)
  2. deactivate beta timeline (all photos from the web of both users are displayed together, as we'd like to have it)
  3. re-activate beta timeline (said photos from my spouse which are shown in the web client are missing in the beta timeline again)

@deThommy commented on GitHub (Aug 25, 2025):

Is the sync indicator still showing?

supposedly the sync is done, still a lot of photos have the cloud-slash icon, so those photos arent backed up (aledgedly), but I see them in the webbrowser, so they are in fact backed up.

i also noticed, that after closing the app and reopening syncing always wants to back up the same remaining 18 photos.

If you can also share the mobile app log, it'd be helpful

there are in 3 errors after opening the app (didnt know check that before, sorry!)

Hope that helps! ... apperently theres an asynchronous gaps, which sound like a discription of what i noticed ;)

btw. in the Mobile Log Interface the "copy"-button is missing in the "FROM"-section.

@alextran1502 seems like that helped. Did that with both our iPhones and now my latest photos are showing up in my spouses library and vice versa.

But now really old photos are showing up like me 10 years ago. My grandma 5 years ago... really random photos taken at different times. We only sync our iPhones "recents" and "favorites" albums ... nothing else and the photos that appeared aren't even favorites.... this didn't happen before but seems to be another issue that I didn't experience until now (said "false" pictures are in sync in both our phones though)

What do you mean where? Like what year or what album?

The odd photos are also showing up in the web timeline, but only after I did te reset of the sql database. Cant say what year they are from though, according to the meta data its 5/6/10 days old... after that everything seems to be fine and in chronological order. Cant tell what photos those are: definitely not favorties, definitely not from a specific album i used to have in my icloud library (too random regard time the picture was taken or people in the picture).

edit:
i just scrolled through my time line thoroughly: between today and August 11 there are 53 odd photos, August 11 and older everything seems to be alright. dont know how this could help though

edit2: all of those photos are in really low quality, most of the pictures only being a couple hundred kilobytes in file size. 2-3 are 1MB... definitely not the "real" images from the actual time taken

trashed the odd photos, emptied the trash, killed and reopened the mobile app on my spouses phone and those pictures re-synced. so they are back. i double checked everything: only the "recents" album is synced, but the odd photos arent in there (at least not a couple of days ago).

what I noticed: my wife has a couple of random albums from apps on her iphone (e.g. whatsapp, and 2-3 other apps, in total 9 albums, so not too many). five of the odd photos are the first picture of those albums ... i'd like to think thats too many to be a coincident, right? 2 other odd photos are also from a "travel" album which only contains those 2 photos ...

everything is uploaded to immich via immich-go from an external hard drive, so no external library configured in the settings menu

Yeah, the 3 photos I checked were the same low quality (only about 300 KiB). Seems like she saved them via WhatsApp back in the days.

And are the albums are selected for backup on your wife's device?

only the "recents" album is selected.

while scrolling through her immich-account on the web i noticed that a lot of previews are missing, especially from older photos. i just started the jobs for miniatures and metadata for all photos again - hope it helps rather then generating new problems. takes a while since its a lot of photos (about 80k remaining)

Ok, so that did nothing. The odd photos are still there. Only the "recents" album is checked to sync.

The odd photos are also part of the recents but with their real date with the same bad quality (seems to be the original quality). the picture in recents shows the date september, 26 2013, even in the travel album same date. but for what ever reason that changed while syncing to immich.

when i delete one of the odd photos from the iphones camera roll it obviously doesnt re-sync since its not there anymore.

what I dont get is, that even after deleting the odd photos, emptying the trash etc... it re-sync but again with the date of august, 15. 2025 - just like it had before the deletion -- is it still saved somewhere "down deep" in the system?

edit:
wild guess, but could it have something to do with my database drifting in issue #20430? ... but it also was two weeks prior to the random date of august 15, 2025 ... i was on version 0.137.3 since on that date and updated to 0.138 on august 19.

i'm probably changing the 53 dates by hand, since its so that many... and it didnt happenn afterswards. still weird.
