The bug

Found the very same issue that I am having
https://www.reddit.com/r/immich/comments/1ejgqxi/is_there_a_way_to_open_the_preview_zoomed_out/

When clicking a picture it is always zoomed in to some kind of maximum fullscreen in my browser no matter what resolution it is.

Thought first it was due to external library but I get the same issue when manually uploading a picture that isn't that big I still get the same issue. I just want to see the original size or fit to screen when resolution is to big

I am using this option
Display original photos
Prefer to display the original photo when viewing an asset rather than thumbnails when the original asset is web-compatible. This may result in slower photo display speeds.

exiftool 2025-02-24_12.07.53.png | grep Image
Image Width : 292
Image Height : 100
Image Size : 292x100

Image

I assume I am doing something wrong?

There is no difference if immich can figure out the resolution or not also

@domguillot commented on GitHub (Nov 27, 2025):

For this fix I think you should try to replace object-fit: contain; by object-fit: scale-down; on the image

I tried with a custom css with the stylish extension on chrome and it works.
I've not tried on other browsers
