The bug

I have a user who has 38k photos. After face recognition jobs, many of the persons have no thumbnail

immich=# SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM person
WHERE "thumbnailPath" IS NULL OR "thumbnailPath" = '';
 count
-------
  1716
(1 row)

I've tried running the face detection job, face recognition job, and thumbnail job. None fixes the issue.

I've tried manually setting feature photo. It works for some person but some doesn't. It's impossible for me to do this for 1716 people.

Any idea is appreciated. I'm happy to run some cleanup scripts/SQL queries so Immich can regenerate thumbnails.

@etnoy commented on GitHub (Feb 21, 2025):

It is possible this is fixed by #15864, but I'm not 100% sure.

@jaconey can you try first running the metadata job for "all" assets, i.e. not just the missing ones? We have a bug fixed in the next release that relates to metadata which might be the cause.

After all metadata has been processed (can take a little while if you have many assets), try the other jobs again.

Thanks @etnoy! Re-gen all the metadata did fix the issue for me! Hope #15864 will fix it for all.
