The bug

On the web UI, some of my images have recently started to appear in the wrong order.
It happens when pictures taken on different devices are (/should be) mixed or videos and photos are mixed. The videos appear much earlier than the photos taken at the same time / photo from one device appear much earlier than the photos from the other device, despite the datetime and the timezone showing the right values for all files.

In the sample images provided below, it can be easily seen, as PXL_20240905_063051573.RAW-01.COVER.jpg was taken >10 minutes later, but appears between the other two images, which were taken within a minute of each other on two different devices.

sample-images.zip

  1. Upload sample images to immich
  2. (optional) add to album and sort by oldest first
  3. see order of images (PXL_20240905_063051573.RAW-01.COVER.jpg comes between the other two images even though it was taken >10 minutes later)
