The bug

The choose for selecting a place by geo-coordinates in Immich is inaccurate.
for instance the following coordinate should result in "Dukenburg" (which is a district) or "Nijmegen" (the city), instead Immich chooses a nearby village named "Alverna"
51.81125926011298, 5.797922381689144

This also true if another (close by the previous coordinate) is entered, example
51.8045067693333, 5.82474952116667
This coordinate is also in the city of "Nijmegen", and district "Hatert". Again a village named "Heilig Landstichting", is chosen as place name.

Reproduction steps

  1. edit the geo-coordinates of an image to 51.81125926011298, 5.797922381689144
  2. see that the coordinate is in the city called "Nijmegen"
  3. save (confirm) your new coordinate
  4. observe that Immich does not choose the city of "Nijmegen" but a village close by named "Alverna"

@bo0tzz commented on GitHub (Jan 25, 2025):

This is not a bug, just a limitation of the current reverse geocoding mechanism.
