The bug

I sync (and move) photos from the photo folder on Android automatically, every hour, to save space on the mobile phone. The Immich Android app does not have the ability to remember the folder selection for backup once all photos from the selected folder on mobile have been (moved/deleted).

It would help if the app remembered the selection of folders. (Eg. I do not want WhatsApp folder backed up. But I am not able to see the WhatsApp folder in the Backup section of the app as my WhatsApp folder is currently empty).

I am using v1.87.

Please see the attached screenshot (my selections for folder backups are forgotten once the folders are empty):

I have the same "problem", I think it is made on purpose. On iOS I always delete my camera folder photos, with Immich I have to leave inside at least 1 photo or the automatic backup will became unactive.

This is really annoying since the recommended way to "free up space" is to just delete photos using the phone's gallery. Once the folder is empty, I have to take another picture so I can set up the folder to backup again. It also disables the background service too. I guess for now I will just have to make sure I keep 1 image in the folder when freeing up space.

Imo the best solution would be both

  1. Allowing selecting empty folders to backup - someone might want to enable backups on a location before they have media
  2. Preserve folder selection even if the folder is missing - someone might clear up space by deleting the whole folder. I think it should show a placeholder and have some text saying "folder missing" or "not found" or something, that way the setting is preserved and visible, and the user can decide if they want to remove that folder from backup settings

@alextran1502, I see this was marked completed, but this issue still exists in Android 1.121.0 build.168. Regression? Or mistakenly marked completed?
