Feature detail

It would be great if immich would be able to grab media from a local location. For example, I have lots of pictures taken with non-smartphone camera, GoPro, etc. in an UNRAID server, which is the same were I would like to run immich. Rather than having to upload all the pictures through the immich website or CLI it would be great if immich could observe/scan given paths and then have a feature to add/scan those images without duplicating them into the local immich storage.

The tool I am using right now (photoprism) can achieve that by monitoring a directory called "originals" and then what I do is that I map the directories of my local media to originals using the docker volume maps.

If that feature would be there in immich I would definitely switch to it since it is a more direct replacement of google photos (which is what many of us want) but with some added flexibility to manage your own media. The app already looks really good and the phone upload feature is much better than any other self-hosted photo management system I have used so far.

Thank you for the good work!!

This seems like it's potentially a duplicate of #7

We currently don't have plans to implement this feature, but as it is highly requested we have an open issue to track any updates on it's progress. You can follow that progress here #7. I'm going to close this as a duplicate of #7
