The bug

When using quicksync to transcode videos some from an iPhone 13 pro (I am assuming is using hevc) results in video being almost completely black except from highlights which are brown tinged. When hardware transcoding is disabled this problem goes away.

Thanks for the report. If you don't mind, I have a few questions to narrow down the issue.

  • Can you share your CPU model and the server's Linux kernel version?

  • Does this occur with all videos or specifically videos from the iphone?

  • Does the same issue occur if you use VAAPI instead of Quick Sync?

I5-10500, 6.1.49
Specifically from the 13 pro
I ran quicksync again to see the problem again and it seems to have worked? Not sure if there was a problem with something I did but can't reproduce it.
