The bug

For some exif timestamps, the metadata extraction fails. Upon image upload the following error message is shown:

immich_microservices | [Nest] 7 - 10/01/2023, 8:09:53 PM ERROR [JobService] Unable to run job handler (metadataExtraction/metadata-extraction): QueryFailedError: invalid input syntax for type timestamp with time zone: "0NaN-NaN-NaNTNaN:NaN:NaN.NaN+NaN:NaN"

The image is still uploaded and shown in the library, but no exif data is shown online. Furthermore, the thumbnail has to be generated manually via Administration->Jobs->Generate Thumbnails->All/Missing.

The odd thing is that for two image files that only differ in their exif timestamp by one second, once image consistently causes the error while for the other image the metadata is extracted with no problems.

1. Create an empty image: convert -size 512x512 xc:black image.jpg
2. Add timestamp A: exiftool -DateTimeOriginal="2016:07:05 22:06:10" image.jpg -o image_correct.jpg
3. Add timestamp B: exiftool -DateTimeOriginal="2016:07:05 22:06:09" image.jpg -o image_broken.jpg
4. Upload both images via the web-interface
