The bug

Single video file on android mobile fails to upload. Android app running v1.79.1, but has been stuck on uploading this file for months.

The video file is 2.01 GiB and is 3840x2160, 60fps, 67809kbps.

File uploads fine after transferring to pc then using cli or pc webui.

When uploading from the mobile app, the upload reaches 100% and stalls indefintely. When trying to upload from chrome on mobile, I get "AxiosError: Request failed with status code 413" in the small upload gui. Popup red error box says message below:

# Reverse Geocoding

# Reverse geocoding is done locally which has a small impact on memory usage
# This memory usage can be altered by changing the REVERSE_GEOCODING_PRECISION variable
# This ranges from 0-3 with 3 being the most precise
# 3 - Cities > 500 population: ~200MB RAM

#
# This is an advanced feature used to control the public server endpoint returned to clients during Well-known discovery.
# You should only use this if you want mobile apps to access the immich API over a custom URL. Do not include trailing slash.
# NOTE: At this time, the web app will not be affected by this setting and will continue to use the relative path: /api

Reproduction steps

1. Open Immich App for Android
2. Wait for File to get to 100% upload
3. File will not upload

1. Open Chrome Mobile for android (v117.0.5938.60)
2. Click upload in immich webui.
3. wait for immich to upload (with any concurrency, tried 1, 2, 4, 8, 100)
4. Receive Axios Error 413 (see top of issue)

Crashes firefox mobile webui so unable to test on different browser.

It probably isn't an Immich issue, but an nginx issue. Do you use it? If so, you can try adding client_max_body_size 8196M; to increase max upload size to 8 GB.

I just got the same issue, if you're using an nginx reverse proxy adding the client_max_body_size to the http directory in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf as well as in the server directory in the vhost /etc/nginx/sites-available/mysite.com did the trick for me.

Thanks everyone, I had the same problem and @hippothomas solution fixed the problem for me.

Where is the source of https://documentation.immich.app/docs/administration/reverse-proxy#nginx-example-config ?

I would like to make a pull request and add the comment of @hippothomas to the docs...

@wipfli - it is here:

https://github.com/immich-app/immich/blob/main/docs/docs/administration/reverse-proxy.md

Closing as this looks like a configuration error, but a PR to the docs would be great!
