The bug

I just started up my server and noticed this line in the logs:

Matplotlib created a temporary cache directory at /tmp/matplotlib-i65qofsv because the default path (/.config/matplotlib) is not a writable directory; it is highly recommended to set the MPLCONFIGDIR environment variable to a writable directory, in particular to speed up the import of Matplotlib and to better support multiprocessing.

matplotlib is imported by one of our dependencies for a feature we don't use. I suppose we could set MPLCONFIGDIR if only to suppress this warning.

For those who want to remove this warning you need to add a new environment variable MPLCONFIGDIR
https://matplotlib.org/stable/install/environment_variables_faq.html

Example for docker-compose.yaml:

  immich-machine-learning:
    volumes:
      - model-cache:/cache

In the env file add:
MPLCONFIGDIR=/cache/matplotlib
